It seems that across the pacific Google will be having an even bigger presence. The search engine giants and an Asian consortium of telecom and data-traffic provider have commissioned a brand new fiber-optic cable to run from the west coast of America to Japan. This will apparently improve the trans -Pacific bandwidth by up to 20%.
The construction of the 6,200 miles worth of cable will begin immediately in the aim to start the data flow by 2010.
It is obvious that Google is setting its sights on the markets that are rapidly expanding in the Far East. This is not about turning Google into a telecom, but actually making sure that the company’s services can grow globally without running into bandwidth limitations.
