Valleywag now has screen captures of an apparent new web site by Yahoo, reportedly launching on the 26th of February 2008, it is set to be named Yahoo Buzz Beta.

Yahoo Buzz will be pretty similar to Digg, however it will start with only 100 sites allowed into the system. After this initial beta period, all accepted sites within the Yahoo Publisher Network will be given access to be added to Yahoo Buzz.

Screen captures suggest it is possible that each article is given a “buzz score.” It appears that the buzz score is generated by users who click the “buzz it” icon. Recent “Top Searches” can also be found on the right side of Yahoo Buzz stories which are updated hourly.

It’s important to also remember that AOL’s Netscape tried to follow Digg with Netscape.com but ultimately failed.
