Facebook continues to get twitterfied as it searches to become a real competitor in the ‘real-time web’ market. Facebook has continued to implement changes to compete with the latest Social Networking giant Twitter.
Facebook is by far the most popular Social Networking site and has managed to beat off previous competition in MySpace and Bebo who are now well behind the Social Networking giants.
Twitter offered something new to the social media world with its real-time features, something soon jumped upon by Facebook and over the past six months they have been rolling out new features to compete with all the advantages Twitter has to offer.
A great feature of Twitter is the @reply or @mention, in which users can direct messages to one another by typing @ followed by their username. Facebook is now soon to release a similar feature in its new feed. Essentially, the feature will allow users the ability to tag friends in status updates. Interestingly, Facebook could have chosen to do this in several ways but chose to incorporate the @ symbol to do so, in exactly the same way Twitter does.
