At an event in London recently, Biz Stone – fouder of Twitter – revealed that the social site would be releasing new tools and features in the not too distant future to help publishers and brands monetise their presence on Twitter.
According to Stone, these tools would include an analytical platform: “We’re going to launch a layer of features that allows companies to be better at Twitter, using data ad analytics to ensure they can use it in the best way,” he said.
Stone went on to explain that these services would help news publishers generate extra revenues online commenting: “It’s a difficult time for most news organisations,” he said. “We look forward to opening up the doors to news organisations to see how we can work together.”
Other speakers at the event included Reid Hoffman, founder of business social networking site LinkedIn and Twitter legend Stephen Fry.
Comedian and all round digital and social media enthusiast Fry added in regards to advertising on Twitter: “If Twitter became something that irritated users, banner ads popping up or being governed by a commercial big brother, the community would go off and create their own Twitter.”
