Great stats, it shown that social media is growing rapidly. Having to justify my use of B2B social media at times, these are great numbers to have. It is also good to see usage trends moving in the right direction. Thanks.

Hi Clicky Media™ Team, With regards to the below statistics (as listed above): ■A third of adults post at least once a week to social sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. ■A quarter of adults publish a blog and upload video/audio they created. ■Nearly 60% maintain a profile on a social networking site. ■70% Read blogs, tweets and watch UGC video. Please can you let me know where I can find the above stats further broken down by age group and if possible, male to female ratio? Many thanks, Bethany

[...] It appears the popularity of Social Media is continually rising in the UK, currently accounting for almost 11% of UK Internet visits, behind search and entertainment websites. Research from the Nielsen Company highlighted that in the UK, at present 29,129 people use social media sites and the average time spend on such sites per person per month equates to 6hrs 07min and 54secs. Similarly, Forrester produced some equally interesting stats about adults using social media, finding that 70% read blogs, tweets and watch UGC video. The most popular social media site, Facebook, accounts for over half of all visits to social networking sites in the UK and has an ever increasing community in the UK as well as worldwide, with a reported 24 million active UK users and 400 million users worldwide. This is closely followed by YouTube, with over 17% of visits. But what about other Social Media sites? Surprisingly Twitter, despite its media coverage and growth over the past year (now 100 million users and 50 million Tweets per day), the site only makes up around 2% of visits to social media sites in the UK. (All facts and figures taken from here). [...]

Facebook is by far and away the most popular social networking site. Social networks and forums rank second in terms of UK internet visits, trailing only visits to search engines. That statistic is interesting in and of itself. At 121.6%, visits to search engines in the UK is almost twice that of visits to news and media sites. Another gem in this list of statistics: "Facebook and Twitter also both boasted a triple-digit growth in 2009 with social networking now accounting for 11% of all time spent online." (tags: 2010 stats facebook global uk socialmedia searchengines twitter research traffic) [...]
