It has been announced that Facebook has overtaken Google as the most popular website in the United States this month, receiving more visits to its home page than the search engine giant.
The two sites put together accounted for 14% of all internet visits in the US on the week ending 13th March 2010. Facebook had a slight lead over Google with 7.07% of the visits compared to 7.03% for Google.
This is the first time that Facebook has taken the lead from Google over the course of a week. However, year-on-year growth for Facebook has been a massive 185% against Google’s 9%. It seems that this achievement has been coming for a while, with Facebook having beaten Google on a few other occasions including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
