Facebook continues to be the outright leader in social networking sites in the UK, with far more users than its competitors; Twitter, Flickr, MySpace, and Linkedin:

(Figures from June 2010)
Facebook currently has over 25,000,000 active users in the UK (August 2010), that’s approximately 45% of the population. Further statistics and demographic breakdown of Facebook users follows below.

(Above graphs based on figures for August 2010)
What’s more, these millions of users are now spending more time on Facebook each month than ever before:

(Comparing average time spent in June 2010 to June 2009)
This has meant that overall the average length of time users spend on a typical visit to Facebook is by far the longest of the top 3 sites:

So what can we deduce from this?
1. That a huge part of the population has a Facebook page
2. That it is slightly biased towards females
3. That over 50% of pages are owned by the under 30s
4. That they spend the equivalent of nearly a whole working day doing facebook a month
5. That the length of the average visit is over double the next social media competitor (if that’s what you call Google)
I hope the Admen are looking into this. With the demassification of media, the opportunities to promote product and services through this media are coming of age.
