Fancy – A social bookmarking site where the focus is actually on sales.
Fancy is similar to Pinterest, in that it is a
collection of the coolest images, destinations and products around the web. However we substitute ‘Pin it’ for ‘Fancy it’ and add them into categories for others to view. Fancy is seemingly targeted at a different demographic to Pinterest as the images tend to focus on a more balanced gender audience with 55% of users being male. It is also made up of urban and high design products and images. This is shown in the list of brands that are present on each site.
Brands currently on Pinterest: Cabot Cheese, Lands’ End and Paula Deen.
Brands on Fancy: Brooklyn Industries, Williams-Sonoma, and Yves St. Laurent.
Fancy is great for brands that want to encourage users to move from bookmarking their favourite products to purchasing them, as it links users to the original site where the product can be purchased.
When some images are selected there is a “buy it” option. This great feature allows consumers to purchase products they may not find in a retail store. This feature also allows brands to not only build brand exposure through unique images but also focus on sales.
So as consumers select an image they “Fancy” they can unlock special deals from retailers. These deals tend to be discount codes that can be used at the checkout on the retailer’s site. ‘Deals’ are available in the drop-down menu at the top; allowing customers to easily find them. It also contains a list of brands on the site, making it easy for customers to find their favourite styles.
Fancy is an exciting prospect for any brands wanting to drive online sales.
