Microsoft is trying to fight fake news with its Edge mobile browser

Microsoft has installed Newsguard warnings into the Edge mobile browser to warn users about untrustworthy news sites.

Microsoft has worked with NewsGuard to provide warnings in its Edge mobile browser (iOS and Android), and this functionality has been added this week to the updated app by default as an optional setting which needs to be switched on.

NewsGuard was created by Steven Brill and Gordon Crovitz, and scores websites based on a range of criteria including their use of deceptive headlines, whether they repeatedly use false content, as well as transparency regarding ownership and financing.

The BBC says The Daily Mail are demanding a U-turn.
