With so many questions coming our way about #mobilegeddon, we thought we would put together a quick FAQ to give answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.
1. When is it happening?
The mobile update to Google happened last week on the 21st of April 2015. It was announced back in February 2015…

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimised for their devices.”

2. How do I check if my site is mobile friendly?
The only way to know if your website is mobile friendly is to use the Google Mobile-Friendly Testing tool.

You can also see if your results are being considered as mobile friendly by checking for the “Mobile Friendly” tag in Google search results on a mobile.
3. Site-wide or Page-by-Page?
Google have said that the update will effect your rankings on a page-by-page basis. This means if you homepage is mobile-friendly and the rest of your site isn’t, your home page will be dealt with favourably by Google. For best results make sure your entire website is mobile-friendly!
4. Is the effect of the update real-time or delayed?
Google have said that unlike Panda and Penguin, the mobile-friendly update is being rolled-out in real-time. This means if your website is mobile-friendly now, then it will be benefitting from the update straight away.
