Clicky Island Discs / David Bowie Special

From Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke, David Bowie created a plethora of stunning personas over six decades. As a true musical chameleon he devoted much of his life to art, film and, most notably, music. Glam rock, soul, techno, synth-pop, electronica and even a crazy 80s advert with Tina Turner, Mr Bowie did it all…twice over!
Cracked Actor
When I was a teenager I was so quiet and I liked a lot of music and films from the 70s and 80s, so I was definitely one of the uncool kids at school. This song reminds me of my 14 year old self playing air guitar in front of the mirror thinking I’m actually a rock star. Note to self – buy full length mirror this week – Beth

As the World Falls Down
95% of the people I know and love have seen Labyrinth. I even dressed up as the Goblin King a few years ago for Halloween. The film is full of awesome David Bowie songs and stuff with funny names like the Bog of Eternal Stench. I found this song in particular really cool because she throws that chair into the glass and all the people start floating and you can see the strings – Beth

Life on Mars
I love the original and this song really caught my attention when the amazing cover popped up in American Horror Story:FreakShow – Nicola

Dancing in the Street by David Bowie & Mick Jagger
Bowie was an incredible artist who resonated with so many people in so many countries. Mick Jagger’s not so bad either. You’d think when the two come together it would create a storm. Well they did. The video is absolutely hilarious and I’m not even sure if that was the intention. It’s like two drunken dads walking home from the pub. The lighter side of Bowie at its finest. He really is an all-round entertainer – Beth
I think Bowie, like most people, would like to be remembered enjoying life with a massive smile on his face. Here he is clearly having a whale of a time with his mate Mick, who was also in a moderately successful band – Joby

20th Century Boy by Placebo Ft. David Bowie
Bowie covering Bolan alongside Placebo, a band who reek of Bowie’s influence more than most. Bowie worked with Placebo as a mystical musical mentor and even appeared on their track Without You I’m Nothing. What’s great about this video is Bowie’s unwavering grin- he’s clearly loving every second – Joby

Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie
Two of rock and roll’s greatest performers, lyricists and performers working together- what more could you want? – Joby

Magic Dance (Labyrinth)
“You remind of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do. Do what? Remind me of the babe”. This has got to be one of the top movie quotes of all time. I absolutely love Labyrinth, I was introduced to it in University. One thing is certain, the movie would be nothing without David Bowie – Nicola
