Clicky Island Discs / Rhian
We’ve asked the Clicky team; before they’re castaway on a remote desert island in the middle of nowhere with only themselves as company, what 5 songs, book and luxury item would they take with them?
Does the format sound familiar? Of course it does, it’s inspired by the legendary Desert Island Discs from BBC radio.
1. Regulate by Warren G ft. Nate Dogg
With the risk of sounding a bit soppy here, if my boyfriend and I were to have ‘a song’ this would probably be it. It’s not exactly romantic, but we love to rap it on long car journeys, at the top of our voices in a bar, or just around the house! Because of this, I can’t help but giggle when I hear it, and I like to think there is a hidden gangster inside of me somewhere! (Those of you who know me, will know I couldn’t be further away from this!)
2. Thousand Trees by Stereophonics
Being a proud Welsh lady, this list wouldn’t be complete without a bit of Kelly Jones (Phwoar)! I’ve chosen this particular Stereophonics song because it takes me back to my university and the 6 Nations Rugby days in Cardiff. Win or loose, this was the anthem of the day in our favourite pub, Walkabout. You can’t beat hundreds of emotional Welsh fans belting this out on the dance floor with a blow up daffodil!
3. Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit
Other than the dance that accompanies this song (obviously), I chose this song because it reminds me of dancing like fool in the pouring rain during Leeds festival with my best friend. Every time I hear it, it makes me smile! Brilliant!
4. Paper Planes by M.I.A
This song takes me back five years to the summer I spent in South Korea. In my poor preparation for the trip I forgot to pack my iPod speakers, meaning I used my phone to play music whilst my friend and I got ready for a night out. Unfortunately, this was the only song I had on my phone at the time, which meant we listened to it every night on repeat for over a month! You’d think I’d be sick to death of it, but it has so many good memories attached to it that I can’t help but love it!
5. Roll out the barrel by Milburn
Roll out the Barrel by Milburn is a sure fire way to get me on the dance floor. This song is an absolute classic amongst my group of friends. It will forever remind me of my youth, watching friend’s play in bands in Central Station, and drinking cider and blacks (Grim)!.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I’m not the biggest reader, so I’d probably go with the Hunger Games. At the very least, it would give me some ideas for killing potential kidnappers!
I have very little faith in my survival skills, so that would rule out anything practical like a penknife. Seeing as I’m doomed to death, I figured that I might as well go in style, which is why I thought I’d opt for a designer bikini!
