Clicky Island Discs / Rich Tarr
Inspired by the legendary Desert Island Discs of BBC radio, we’ve asked the Clicky team; before they’re castaway on a remote desert island in the middle of nowhere with only themselves as company, what 5 songs, book and luxury item would they take with them?
Rich, one of our Front-End Developers has kindly taken the time to give us his Clicky Island Discs this week.
1. Tonight, Tonight by The Smashing Pumpkins
This always takes me back to when I first discovered the Smashing Pumpkins – I felt like there was so much great music to listen to.
2. My Girls by Animal Collective
Great song about wanting the simple things in life, it always puts me in a good mood!
3. Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana
This was probably my favourite Nirvana song when I was younger, and years later it still gives me shivers (especially with the video)!
4. Girl From the North Country by Secret Machines
I only discovered this recently, but I feel very nostalgic listening to it. A great way to spend 10 minutes with a good pair of headphones.
5. Hurt by Johnny Cash
Another cover song that only has the full effect with the video, powerful song from an absolute legend.
A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
I find Bill Bryson absolutely hilarious, and this book is fascinating too. There’s loads of amazing QI-style facts from all areas of human discovery, I could easily read it again and again and learn something new every time.
I think someone else chose a guitar in their list, but this has kept me entertained for the last 10ish years so I think it would be invaluable trapped on a desert island! Plus it’s easy firewood when the strings have all broken.
