Clicky Island Discs / Sam
Inspired by the legendary Desert Island Discs of BBC radio, we’ve asked the Clicky team; before they’re castaway on a remote desert island in the middle of nowhere with only themselves as company, what 5 songs, book and luxury item would they take with them?
Having a really eclectic taste in music made this near impossible, so I went for five songs that feature in my most played iTunes/Spotify accounts. Each song is best played loud…
1. In Bloom by Nirvana
An absolute classic from what I consider to be one of the best albums ever made, which happens to be 25 years old next year. It was tricky to pick a favourite but I love the build and drop on this.
2. Everlong by Foo Fighters
Probably the most consistently decent band over the last 20 years in my opinion and if I could only ever listen to one song again, it would be this.
3. Last Nite by The Strokes
A favourite from my teens in the early 00’s, when all bands started with ‘The’ and indie music had a bit of a resurgence in the charts. From a long list, I have a particular fondness for this band and the song.
4. I’m A Realist by The Cribs
All my other picks have been American bands but I am also a huge fan of The Cribs who alongside Oasis would be one my favourite British bands. I must have seen them live around ten times now and every time they have been brilliant. Their anthemic indie-pop-punk riffs always make for good listening.
5. Hey Girl Hey Boy by The Chemical Brothers
All the other selections follow a similar style making choosing my final song and the genre all the more difficult, but as I’ll be stranded on a desert island I thought I’d prefer something a bit more upbeat. Another pretty odd video too!
I’m not much of a bookworm, but would much rather read history books than fiction. I’d pick ‘A Little History of the World’ by Ernst Gombrich which I read recently, that cleverly summarises the story of man from the stone age to the modern day.
I’m sure this is denied by the rules but being practical as ever, I’d choose a luxury yacht. As well as providing all the required amenities, when I get bored of paradise (and my playlist!) I can sail home in style.
