Day 4: Clicky @ Global Travel Dubai Conference
The last full day of The Global Travel Group Conference 2016 was full of inspirational advice, awards, prizes and top entertainment…
The day kicked off with a welcome from Jeremy Skidmore rounding up the events for the day ahead. Hoor Alkhaja, Overseas Promotional Manager for Dubai Tourism, gave an insightful brief on the history of Dubai and the hashtag #MyDubai
Jo Fairley, co-founder of Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate, was absolutely brilliant. She was really inspirational and talked about how she started the company because she found some chocolate on her husbands desk and how delicious it was. Jo said travel companies should consider launching fair trade holidays and emphasised how quality of holidays are far more important than price. As well as the words of wisdom, each delegate was given a bar of Green & Black’s chocolate – yum!
In the afternoon, Oli and Sam had more speed dating sessions and the film crew spent the afternoon by the pool with the band Blake (who were performing on stage for us at the Global Gala Dinner that evening!). The team then all got ready and headed over to the Gala Awards dinner. The venue was a marquee next to Nasimi beach within the Atlantis. It was a smart dinner and the guests were treated to some Traditional Arabic dance and a song.
The marquee looked incredible with colourful lighting, beautiful flower arrangements and large lanterns hanging from the ceiling. As we took our seats, there was a wonderful selection of pre-starters laid out on the table. The starter itself was a crab seafood cocktail and was served with dry ice and edible flowers to decorate – the height of quirky luxury cuisine!
The awards, presented by Global’s Cherie Richards, included some amazing prizes for the agents such as holidays to Las Vegas, India and luxury cruises. The entertainment was nothing short of incredible – we saw performances from electric strings trio Sparks, Fred Sharp (the most popular illusionist in Dubai) and Blake (our new friends).
