Free Websites for UK Charities: We Are Building One Every Quarter
Every quarter for the next 12 months, one UK charity gets a new website from us at no cost. Applications for the Autumn 2026 round are open now.
We are giving away four websites.
Every quarter for the next 12 months, one UK charity gets a new website from us. Designed, built and handed over by the same team our paying clients get, at no cost. Applications for the first one are open now.
Why we are doing it
Every year Clicky pledges 1% of our profit and 1% of our time, and everyone here gets 2 paid volunteer days. That has taken us up Snowdon, through a lot of bake sales and into more school halls than I can count, and all of it is worth doing.
But we are better at building than we are at bake sales. If you point 1% of our time at the thing we are actually good at, you get four charities with websites they could never have afforded. That felt like a better use of it.
What the charity actually gets
A real website. Not a cut-down version of one, and not a favour with a logo on it.
A proper design process with a workshop and a route we agree together. A WordPress build with editable blocks and a training session for whoever keeps it up to date, so nobody has to ring an agency to change an opening time. Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility, built in from the first line and tested before it goes live, because accessibility is not an upgrade on a charity website. The technical SEO groundwork done properly. 30 days of support after launch.
And it is theirs. The design, the code and the content belong to the charity the day it launches. Host it wherever you like, take it to whoever you like. Nothing is locked to us.
What it is not
I would rather be straight about this on day one than disappoint someone in month two.
It is a WordPress site at a sensible size, with the scope agreed up front. It is not an online shop, a donation platform build, a members area or a bespoke integration, though we will happily connect the tools you already use like JustGiving or Enthuse. Hosting, your domain and any paid tools stay yours to arrange. And it is not an ongoing retainer: we hand it over, support it for 30 days, and if you want us after that it is a normal conversation with a normal quote.
One more, and it is the one that decides whether a build lands on time. We need someone at the charity who can find the photos, write the words and say yes, for a few hours a week over about six weeks. Content is what stalls builds, charity or not, and a quarter is a real deadline.
Who can apply
You need to be a registered UK charity or CIO, with annual income under £1m as a guide. If you are a little over and struggling, tell us and we will look at it. If you are constituted but not registered yet, same answer.
We are North West born and the region will always catch our eye, but the whole of the UK is welcome and we do not want four winners from one postcode. We will politely pass on anything party political or anything that excludes people. Everything else is fair game.
How it works
There is a form on the Clicky for Charity page. It takes about 10 minutes. No covering letter, no forms in triplicate.
Two of us read every single one. Not a scoring matrix, two people reading. Everyone hears back within 2 weeks of the round closing, including the nos, because spending 10 minutes hoping and then hearing nothing is a rotten way to be treated. The shortlist gets a 20 minute call to check the fit and the timings, and then we build.
The Autumn 2026 round closes on 30 September 2026. Miss it and the next one is only 3 months away, so it is worth applying to the round that actually suits you.
If you know a charity that needs this
Send them the link. The charities with the worst websites are almost never the ones with the loudest marketing, and the ones who most need a hand are often the least likely to put their hand up.
Apply, or read the detail, on the Clicky for Charity page.
