Meta launches Ads Super Burst

Meta has launched Ads Super Burst and a set of new brand tools. Here's what's changed, what it means for UK advertisers and the 5 things to check this week.

Meta launches Ads Super Burst

Meta wants a bigger slice of your brand budget, and at its Brand Building Summit on 15 October it showed exactly how. Brands can now book Facebook and Instagram for a few hours at a time, lock rivals in their category out of that slot, and Meta is testing a way to measure attention the way people actually scroll.

Some of it is US-only for now. Ads Super Burst isn't: it's rolling out this month. Here's what's new, what it means for UK brands and what's worth checking before your Q1 plans are locked in.

What's changed

Ads Super Burst

Ads Super Burst lets brands book a window of 3 to 24 hours and, in Meta's words, reach their audience "at TV-like scale inside that window". Category exclusivity is available, so no other advertiser in your category can book the same slot. Campaigns are planned in Reach Planner, which gives an estimate of reach and price up front, with guaranteed delivery tied to that estimate.

Meta says advertisers testing it over recent months saw a median 2.9-point lift in ad recall and a 0.6-point lift in intent, reaching a median of 34 million people per flight. That equated to 14% of the US adult online audience in a single day. It's moving to general availability this month, rolling out in phases.

First Impression Ads

Meta is testing the first ad position people see when they open their Facebook Feed. It's an early test in the United States, limited to 1 brand per day, and Meta hasn't shared any results yet.

Reels Trending Ads

Reels Trending Ads place your ad straight after the most-watched and most culturally relevant Reels on Facebook and Instagram. There are now 15 always-on topics, including new Home & Garden and Spanish-language categories, plus seasonal lineups around the holidays and the start of the football and basketball seasons. Custom audience exclusions are due later this year.

Meta reports that campaigns including Reels Trending Ads saw action intent rise by more than 5 percentage points against control groups, with an incremental 5-point lift in unaided brand awareness.

Aggregated View Time

Now in alpha, Aggregated View Time measures the total time someone spends with your brand across a week, rather than judging each view on its own. Meta's research found that 5 seconds of attention added up over a week drove 32% more offline sales than one continuous 5-second view.

3 short views across a week add up to 5 seconds of attention. A single-view metric would only count 2.

The small print

2 more changes are worth your attention:

  • Updated Commercial Terms from 20 November 2026. Advertisers will be solely responsible for any content created with Meta's AI features, and must not remove AI watermarks or content-authenticating metadata. The terms also confirm Meta can modify, limit, suspend or discontinue commercial products without prior notice, and authorise Meta to crawl the websites linked to your ads to develop its ad products.
  • Off-platform privacy controls have been merged. In June, Meta announced it would retire the "Your activity off Meta technologies" setting and expand "Activity from other businesses", using data businesses already share to personalise Feed and AI responses as well as ads. The change started rolling out in July in the US and a number of other countries, with more to follow.

Meta hasn't published pricing, minimum spends or a market list for any of the new formats, so check Reach Planner in your own account for availability.

Why it matters for UK advertisers

  • Ownable moments are back. Super Burst gives you a guaranteed, concentrated window around a launch, a sale or a cultural moment.
  • Video measurement is getting smarter. If attention adds up across a week, a run of short, punchy assets may work harder than one hero film.
  • Early movers have the edge. Category exclusivity rewards whoever books first.
  • Less certainty over products. Meta can change or withdraw commercial features without notice, so close performance monitoring matters more than ever.
  • More data in play. Merged privacy controls give Meta a broader signal set for personalisation, which can help performance but will attract more scrutiny.

Your 5-minute check this week

  1. Check Reach Planner for Ads Super Burst. Or ask your Meta rep whether it's live for your account, and where it could fit in your Q4 or Q1 2027 plans.
  2. Map your big moments. Which launches, seasonal sales or awareness pushes would benefit from a concentrated 3 to 24-hour burst?
  3. Rethink video for cumulative attention. Can your creative build attention across several short touchpoints in a week?
  4. Review your AI-generated assets. From 20 November you're solely responsible for content made with Meta's AI features. Make sure your sign-off process covers it.
  5. Tighten performance monitoring. Set alerts for sudden shifts in delivery, cost or reach so you catch changes quickly.

The bigger picture

Meta is pushing hard into top-of-funnel brand budgets, offering TV-style guarantees of reach alongside better proof of attention and offline impact. That's a positive step for accountability.

The trade-off is that Meta is also taking more control over its products and how data is used. The brands that win will be the ones that test early, measure closely and stay ready to adapt.
