In the world of social media, where attention is short and competition is fierce, storytelling can be a really effective way of grabbing viewers’ attention. Storytelling helps create a connection with your audience and makes your brand more memorable as people remember stories. The rise of Tik tok has led to a boom in video content over the past few years, and video allows you to easily tell a story which speaks to your viewers, creating more engaging and memorable ads for your audience.
Here are a few tips that I consider when using storytelling in social ads:
Create an emotional connection
Telling a story that uses visuals or messaging that spark feelings or emotions can help create an emotional connection between you and the viewer which will help when encouraging the viewer to engage with your business.
Guide the viewer through your story
Begin with an attention-grabbing hook, and a high quality, exciting clip! Then continue to tell your story by organising clips which tell an impactful story. Always end your story with a call to action or memorable message.
Before & After Stories and User Generated Content
I love to use "before and after" stories in visuals. This approach not only tells a story but also demonstrates the value of what you offer, but can provide trust in your product or service and provides a “silent review.”. We have found that these type of ads have had a great impact on click through rate. This leads me nicely onto User-generated content, UGC adds authenticity to your brand narrative. Sharing real stories from your customers makes your brand more relatable and trustworthy. It humanises your brand. Also a great way to get new content without putting on a costly photoshoot!
