Top 10 restaurants in Chester
To celebrate Clicky’s 10th birthday this year, the team have been given the task of creating their own Top 10’s. This week, Lead Digital Designer, Hayley shares her top restaurants in Chester!
When I’m not busy working as a designer here at Clicky, I love going out to culinary hotspots to sample what they have on offer and to populate my Instagram account with foodie snaps.
Here in Chester, we are blessed with some amazing restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. It has been really tough to whittle it down to just 10, but in no particular order, here we go…
1. The Chef’s Table
This multi-award winning gem is nestled away on Music Hall Passage just opposite the Cathedral. The restaurant is small and personal with the view of the chefs cooking away right in front of you. They pride themselves in serving up fresh, seasonal food which is absolutely exceptional and looks like art on your plate.
2. Sticky Walnut
Just outside of the city centre in trendy Hoole, or “Notting Hoole” as it is now being referred to, is the delightful Sticky Walnut. It is cosy and welcoming with romantic wooden candle lit tables and chef’s aprons hung up on the walls. Here you’ll find imaginative, truly delicious dishes made from the heart.
This is my favourite place to go on a sunny evening. Dining al fresco on the wooden benches down a cobbled street, you almost feel as if you’re in Barcelona. Order your Spanish style tapas and watch the world go by.
4. The Flower Cup
This Italian influenced florist doubles up as a cafe too. Sit down amongst the beautiful, sweet-smelling seasonal flowers whilst enjoying a freshly made coffee and a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast.
If it’s American style burgers, ribs or mac n cheese you’re after then Hickories is the place for you. Located along the picturesque river Dee, Hickories serves up authentic barbequed American style food with great hospitality and service to go with it.
6. Atina Kitchen
This cute and quirky family-owned restaurant is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. It serves fresh and tasty Italian inspired food, homemade burgers, and smaller plates ideal for sharing.
7. The Botanist
The botanist is a bar that’s full of life, serving an excellent range of botanical themed cocktails and yummy food to go with them. Bicycles, antiques and trinkets hang from the ceilings and the walls are adorned with gardening themed objects.
8. Urbano 32
Urbano32 serves up incredible sourdough pizzas straight from their clay oven. The cool, rustic and industrial interior makes this place the perfect social meeting place.
9. The Architect
The Architect is a traditional pub situated across from the Roodee Racecourse. It boasts a giant beer garden perfect for enjoying a glass of Pimms and tucking into one of their yummy sharing platters on a sunny day. The interior of the pub has a traditional and cosy feel to it and serves up British classics with a modern twist.
10. Restaurant 1539
We enjoyed Clicky’s 9th birthday party here and the food was divine! 1539 situated right on the racecourse offers brilliant views of the oldest racecourse in the UK, if you manage to catch a sunset here then you’re in for a real treat. The menu features regionally sourced, seasonal dishes presented all so elegantly.
