What is Instagram Shopping?

For a more immersive shopping experience, businesses can now engage with their customers on Instagram by tagging their products within each image or carousel post.

Users can now shop and learn more about products within their feed, in the moments they’re looking to discover.

Tagged shopping posts display the price and product details, allowing users to explore more in a single tap without having to leave the platform. Instagram Shopping further enables product-based businesses to access customers as they search and seek across the platform, making a smoother and seamless experience for users to explore and purchase products exactly at the moment they’re inspired.

When it comes to shopping, we set out to create something that was less transactional and more immersive. Something that gave people more time and space to browse and evaluate products, making mobile shopping feel just like shopping. The solution is not as simple as just adding a buy button.

Instagram originally announced their plans for Shopping back in November 2016, where a select number of brands based in the US were invited to test the platform. The led Instagram to later expand this beta group to any business with a U.S.-based Instagram business account, partnering with Shopify to allow up to 30,000 businesses to join.

Now available for approved businesses in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Brazil, some of the most popular product selling businesses have quickly utilised Instagram Shopping to drive more traffic and increase sales.

If you have an approved account and are connected to a Facebook catalogue, created either through Business Manager, Shopify or BigCommerce, Instagram Shopping can help you inform and delight your customers organically and directly in their feed.
