Over the last 3 months our team have taken part in Conquer the Challenge, a fundraising event set up by our partner charity The Brain Tumour Charity. Those who took part were able to pick from two levels of challenge the Standard Challenge (88 miles cycling, walking and/or running) or the (Matrix Challenge: 88 miles cycling AND 28 miles running AND 11 miles walking.)
These numbers have significance, 88,000 people in the UK are living with a brain tumour; 11,700 people are diagnosed each year; £2.8million is how much the charity have invested into their pioneering BRAIN MATRIX clinical trial.
As a member of the People & Culture team at Clicky, I have a brilliant relationship with The Brain Tumour Charity. They shared information with us about the event and we knew it would be such a great opportunity for our team to get outside, get talking and keep motivated. The event has been all about spreading awareness, the numbers were really eye opening so anything we can do to support the charity we will. It’s a bonus that this challenge was physical and has helped staff wellbeing too.
We have a real mix of physical ability, some of us would easily shy away from any physical activity and others are running and cycle obsessed so this challenge was perfect for us, there were two options for the challenge which meant that more of the team got involved (40% of our team in total) and each person had a different approach. Some cycled to and from the office where possible, some went for a run on their lunch break and others had walking meetings!
In total, we have raised £1,125 for the charity and walked, ran and cycled 1,924 miles over the last three months.
Here’s what the team had to say about the challenge:
“Across the 3 months it’s been great to not only complete the challenge in terms of numbers, and also be able to explore my local area more to mix up the exercise routes, and as restrictions have started to lift, actually use it as an opportunity to see friends for the first time in a while.”
“I’m so happy to have taken part in conquer the challenge, not only have I achieved my goals with the support from the rest of the Clicky team but it’s been a great opportunity to raise funds for such a great cause as well as learning more about the charity and sharing my knowledge to raise awareness.”
“I wanted to take part with Conquer the Challenge because I have seen the amazing work that The Brain Tumour Charity does and I wanted to be able to support that.”
