As schools are closing for summer break and with international travel steadily picking up, looking for where to take the family for summer holidays or day trips are on every Brit’s mind.
Our team has analysed TripAdvisor, search volume, and Instagram tag data to rank the best domestic holiday destinations for families based on a number of kid-friendly accommodations and restaurants. Cornwall took the top position across all metrics.
Boasting a wide variety of adventure activities like walks and a plethora of water sports, Cornwall is perfect for families with children of varying ages. Devon came in as a close second.
The research also looked at which of the most popular destinations were the most romantic – for a little alone time for the parents and couples. Devon came in first, followed by Cornwall and the Lake District.
Scores across the different metrics were normalised on a 1-5 scale. The full breakdown can be found below:
The research also delves further into changing demands from travellers and how domestic travel companies can best capitalise on these trends for 2022 and beyond. For more on those tips, take a look at our Riding the Staycation Wave beyond 2021 post.
Staycations will continue to have their moment in 2021, with ongoing international travel limitations. However, it’s not just the pandemic that has led to a rise in staycations; it’s simply that it has accelerated the trend.
That’s why it’s important for domestic travel to start strategising for next year and beyond. We’ve based our rankings above on current search trends and demands from potential travellers who are looking for that holiday that allows them to explore and enjoy the best of British destinations.”
