Our very own PPC Specialist Richard Martin graduated from his Google Squared Online course!
Back in February this year, we told you that Rich had enrolled in Google’s Squared Online course to improve on his digital marketing skills and knowledge. Not only did the course provide new insights, but it also involved developing leadership and group working skills.
We asked Rich for a brief summary of what he enjoyed most about the course and what new digital insights he learn, and here’s what he had to say:
Overall the Google squared course was great and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in digital, who wants to learn more.
“Its a big time commitment, especially alonside a full-time job, but I really enjoyed my time on the course.”
The main thing I took from the course was a more comprehensive view of digital marketing as a whole. All of my past job roles within digital have focused heavily on PPC and it was great to get a more formal form of learning about the wider digital landscape. In one of the earlier projects on the course, as part of a group of other squares (people on the course) we had to form an idea for a digitally driven business and undertake a pitch to investors. This gave me a really great insight into the work that goes into starting a digital business before, and beyond marketing.
“With so many clients in different industries and implementing different strategies it can often be awkward to pin down how best to quantify performance of a digital campaign”
One of the other key takeaways which I have already found very useful with client work at Clicky was our focus Avinash Kaushik’s DMMM, (Digital Marketing and Measurement Model). Avinash has written a fantastic article on it which can be found here in which he breaks down the process in such a way that anyone can follow. With so many clients in different industries and implementing different strategies it can often be awkward to pin down how best to quantify performance of a digital campaign, or even what is the right strategy for a particular campaign or business as a whole. Avinash’s walkthrough of his DMMM make this process much easier, and I’ve found his model incredibly useful with existing and new clients alike.
“Whilst there were obviously a number of hurdles to overcome I found the experience extremely useful.”
Lastly, I also found great value in working with other course members remotely. The course was made up of members from all over the UK, and so in order for us to communicate effectively this was all done online. This was the first time I’ve undertaken such a large group project where all communication, and work within the team was 100% online and with people that I had never even met, let alone worked with before. Whilst there were obviously a number of hurdles to overcome I found the experience extremely useful.
